The Coated VICRYL® Plus Antibacterial (polyglactin 910) Suture label has changed to reflect the growing body of evidence
Prospectively planned meta-analyses of randomized clinical trials were performed on the use of suture containing triclosan to lower surgical site infection rates. Examples of such meta-analyses are referenced below.(Ref: 244,245)
After incubation at 37ºC for 24 hours, bacterial colonies (dark red) are visible in all areas of a petri dish except for the "zone of inhibition" around a Plus Antibacterial Suture(Ref: 137,138,146)
Coated VICRYL Plus Suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/ or ligation, except for ophthalmic, cardiovascular and neurological tissues.
